Help to Buy is an Equity Loan Scheme offered by the Government to first time buyers and those already on the property ladder looking to move. Under the Equity Loan Scheme, the Government can loan buyers up to 20% of the cost of a newly built home. This means buyers only need to provide as little as 5% cash deposit and 75% mortgage, but the homeowner still retains 100% ownership. The loaned percentage is free of fees for the first 5 years.
